Christmas Pictures

Every year it becomes more challenging to take those perfect Christmas card pictures. Lives are busy and the days are long (even though they're actually much shorter due to the earlier sunsets). Finding time for outdoor pictures isn't easy. My tip? Forget about getting perfect and go for authentic. Go out when you have the time and let your children have fun while you snap away, and in between the tongues sticking out and dancing around you're going to snap some pictures that warm your heart.

This year we had just as many silly pictures as we did sweet-and honestly, they're my favorite. They always are.

Entertaining: The Bar Cart

Every now and then the stars align and that certain something you've been hunting for, scouring the flea markets, antique shops, and consignment stores for, falls into your lap. In this case it was almost literal. I've been looking for a bar cart for years. Locating one hasn't been a real issue, but finding one that was reasonably priced...that's another story.

For the second year in a row Madeline qualified for the meet in Clovis. Held in Fresno, which they are all calling FresYES after the team's success, it is an overnight trip in which the best of the best from the teams in the league compete. I'm thrilled to say that as always, Oak Park rose like cream in coffee and did a fantastic job. Madeline earned a medal as well!

I owe thanks to Madeline's friends for these images, but you'll see that one of the reasons this team is a winner isn't just due to their skill and hard work ethic, it's because they're family. And family always encourage and support one another.  Enjoy shots of fun and sweet success on the trails of Clovis.

A Ghostly Circle

We enjoy the holidays and try to make the most of them. Crazily enough, though stores begin stocking for the seasons months ahead of time, once the holidays in question arrive they fly by. I'm not the only one who's noticed this right?

In the spirit of savoring these October days, my son and I tackled a project that's been sitting in my Pinterest files for years. We waited for this weekend to do it since big sister would be out of town and together, we spent most of our Saturday creating a sweet and spooky circle of ghosts.

Are you ready to make your own?

Biscuits, Burgers, & Big Bear

Sometimes a weekend falls where there isn't very much going on and you're able to savor moments just a bit more. This happens to be one of those times. It's a three day weekend and other than a little studying and homework, answering a few emails, the breaks have been applied and we have slowed down. Even breathing feels a bit easier.

I was able to make some buttermilk biscuits while all was still quiet, recipe found here, we went into L.A. to eat at Shake Shack, and when our afternoons grew sleepy I was able to edit some pictures from my trip to Big Bear. Enjoy a few snippets and stay tuned for a spooktacular decorating idea for Halloween outside and our images from Big Bear.

Recipe: Roasted Corn & White Bean Chicken Chili

Fall has come and there's a Presidential debate on television. It's only fitting that we eat something that feeds the body and soul while viewing the political discourse. For the past few years we've made a winter white chicken chili when the seasons changed, but looking for a little variation on a favorite I went to Pinterest and discovered the adorable blog Like Mother, Like Daughter. I took a cursory look and while it was similar to my original recipe there were enough differences to make it interesting.

It is fun to change things around sometimes.

Weekend Getaway

It doesn't happen often, but sometimes a girl gets to hit the road with her friends for some travel and relaxation. Blessedly this weekend that girl is me. One of my girlfriends has a home in Big Bear and invited a few of us for a weekend. This particular weekend happens to be the Wine Walk in the village (insert happy face here), which only adds to the appeal of this getaway.
